Get to know your camera

Do you have the following?

  • Camera
  • Clean memory card
  • Flash (on camera or off)
  • Fresh batteries (plus charger if rechargeable)
  • USB cable or Card Reader (to get photos into computer)

Resolution
Size and quality (always set to fine, symbolized by a smooth curve)

To print 8×10, you need at least 3M. To crop a photo to an 8×10, you will need a higher number to start. We’ll always set ours to the highest possible setting.

What is the highest resolution your camera will allow?

  • 3M
  • 4M
  • 5M
  • 6M
  • 7M
  • 8M
  • 9M
  • 10M or more

Do you know how to change it to make sure it is set at that level?

Memory Card
What is the size of your memory card (in MB or GB)?
Can you find how many photos it will fit?

Focus
Can you control the focus?

  • On almost every autofocus camera, you control focus by pressing the shutter button: halfway to focus, all the way to shoot
  • Do you have a manual focus setting?

Exposure
How do you control the exposure?

  • Manual exposure
  • Aperture
  • Shutter Speed
  • Program
  • Green/Auto
  • Exposure compensation (+/-)

Flash
How do you turn flash on and off? What are the other settings?
